Thoughts, thoughts, and more thoughts

I made it through a rather choppy chapter of rewriting. I keep reminding myself as I cringe over the rewriting of this book. I wrote this four years ago. And I have come a long way in my writing skills since then. If my editor (and myself) didn't love the story and characters so much, I'd ditch it and go for a newer one! LOL

But I do love the characters and the story. It is so- western! And the characters so- vulnerable and quirky! As I work away on this and see the publishing date looming closer, I wonder how much time I am going to have to spend on promotion. How much time do I want to spend on promotion? Is your first book the one you promote to the hilt or just do a little?

I'm going to take Lisa's advice and lurk on the Romance Divas site and see what I can glean. But only in between chapters. I must get this done!

I'm with you, Paty. I think rewriting/revising is harder than writing something new. I think that's part of the reason you often hear editors and agents say to write something new instead of going back and revising all your old work. As you grow as a writer, your skills grow, your voice changes, and it's hard to mesh that with work you did years before.

I had the same problem when I was revising SOS this past month, and I only wrote that last year! My writing and voice had changed enough over just the past year that it was difficult at times for me to get into the revisions.

Keep plugging away at it. Loving the characters is the most important thing, and since you know this is a sale, I'm sure that motivates you to keep going!

I'm coming in late but congrats on the sale and good luck!
