Getting Itchy

I'm getting itchy and want to start writing on the third Petticoat book. I only have a smidgen more research to do, but it is critical to the beginning of the book, so I don't want to start writing and find I've written myself into a corner. And I haven't had time to do the research! The characters are getting clearer in my mind every day and I see the conflicts and the attraction building. I-just-need- one hour to read up on stamp mills and then I could take off on this story.

Alas, I have an editing backlog that is keeping me from the research and the writing. Hopefully after today, tomorrow for sure, I can sit down with the mining books I've acquired to write this book and glean all the info I need and then the fingers can start flying and the keys start ticking!

Research has always been my favorite part of writing a book, whether it's a historical or contemporary.

Can you as a reader tell when an author does her research or do you even care if the characters have drawn you in whether or not the rest of the story sounds correct or logical?

I love a book where I learn something , whether it's about history or a different country, whatever. But the characters have to leap off the pages at me and the lesson I'm learning has to be part of their struggles or else I get bored.

Course that's not going to happen in a Paty Jager novel!
