An Exciting Week!

I'm getting excited! This Friday is the book reading/signing for my newest release, Perfectly Good Nanny. I sent out postcards to locals, sent an article to the local paper (which I haven't seen or heard back from anyone). My biggest fear is that my signing won't get the coverage I'd like because there is a big literary weekend going on here this weekend and my little book signing will get lost in the coverage of that event. I am on the Good Morning Central Oregon show on Thursday morning. The host of that show is a great supporter of authors.

I was at a meeting with one of my friends and readers on Saturday and she asked, "Are you excited about next Friday? I am!" She can't wait to get the next book. Those are the comments that make this writing gig so worthwhile. To have people waiting for the next book. And that's why I beat myself up to get another book out there.

My editor and I have been passing the next Petticoat book back and forth trying to make it bigger and better. I really would like to have it out in print by May of 2008. My goal is to have a new book out every 6 months, but we'll see if I can keep up the pace as other things pull on my time.

What is the longest you've waited for the next book to come out from an author? If it's someone you like, does the wait matter? Or if it's too long do you forget about them?

I don't mind waiting a year for the next book. Six months would be better, but as a writer myself, I know how dang long it takes to write a whole novel.

I lost interest in Jean Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear series. I love her books, and used to read the first 3, then 4 every year. But having to wait -- how many blasted years was it? -- for that last one to come out, my interest never came back. I've got the newest installment around here somewhere, but almost feel like I'd have to read from the beginning book again to remember what's going on. Sigh.

I'll read it. Some year. Although it may take me as long to locate and read it as it did for her to write it.

Glad to hear about your exciting week Paty! Good luck, and I hope you get some great coverage!

Like Danita, I don't mind waiting a year. But I totally lost interest after I started the Harry Potter books and then had to wait. Luckily, I got started on them late and only had to wait after the first 4. So, I read the first four and I've never gone back.

And like Danita said about Jean Auel's books, UGH!, those took waaaayyy too long to come out and I never went back to the last one either. I did buy it, but I gave it away to our chapter conference one year, unread. :)

If I love an author's work, I'll wait a year or even two, but no more than that if it's a series. I'm too short in the ol' attention span I guess.

Best of luck on your week!
