Wednesday Promo- Susan Kelley

Thanks so much for having me, Paty.
I have so many things going on right now, I'm not sure where to start. I'm a high school teacher by day and a writing in numerous genres at night. I fit all that in between being a mother to four children, a wife to wonderful man, and trying to find time for my variety of hobbies and interests. When I'm not writing, I'm baking, cross-stitching, gardening and reading. I live in the country in Pennsylvania where none of us believe in global warming. It's been so cold and wet, we're all thinking of moving to Seattle to work on our tans.
I have a fantasy romance, To Tame a Tiger, contracted with The Wild Rose Press. I'm in the middle of edits right now and expect it to be released sometime next year. I also have an epic fantasy series with Medallion Press. The first book, The Keepers of Sulbreth, will be released next January. I read a lot of epic fantasy and prefer it to urban fantasy.
New Concepts Publishing is home to my Solonian Chronicles, futuristic romance series. The Greater Good, The Lesser Evil, and A Ruthless Good are set in a future Earth. The first two books are available in print and ebook. A Ruthless Good is currently available in ebook and will be released in print in early June. You can read an excerpt here. All three books can be purchased at:

You can see all my book covers and read more excerpts at my website or my blog.

How did you realize fantasy was the genre you wanted to write
?

I've always loved fantasy, be it romantic or epic. I fell in love with The Lord of the Rings in junior high school but I didn't think about being a writer until years later. I also write futuristic romance though I avoid high tech scientific jargon. My Solonian Chronicles series is a futuristic series set in a future Earth after an asteriod strike sents the world tumbling back into a pre-technological struggle for survival.

You're covers look hot- how hot are your stories?

I laughed when I saw my cover for A Ruthless Good. All my romances are more sensual than sizzling. The hero depicted on that cover is actually a bit shy about his body though he shouldn't be. I'd like to think my heroes are all hot and my heroines are like gasoline thrown on their virile fires.

Why do you write romance
?

When I first started to think about writing, a wise person told me every great story was a love story. I agree completely. After food and shelter, love is the greatest need of humans. Writing about finding food and shelter can get pretty boring. Love is necessary to happiness and life. People want love and want to believe in it. I like the HEA not only in what I write, but in what I read. I even seek it in movies I watch.

Hi Susan:
Paty announced your hot cover on one of my loops and I had to see for myself. WOW! It made my eyes pop and nearly got me drooling, lol. Truthfully, I didn't get past the cover. So now I'll go back and read your interview. LOL

Good luck on all your sales.

What an eye-popping cover, Susan! I primarily write historical romances, but am working on my first science fiction romance, and while it has some technical jargon, it's mostly set on a primitive planet.

Your story sounds intriguing!!

What a great story idea! I'm very interested. I was the teen into survivalist and post-armageddon stories. And the cover only makes it better! LOLLLLLLLLL

Can I have one of those? Please?

Fantastic cover. That will catch a reader's attention, for sure. Like Helen, I like your explanation of why you write romance. Best of luck with your writing.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. The cover for this book was hotter than the previous ones in the series and it took me by surprise, but so many people love it I have to give my publisher credit for a good idea. Good luck, Susan, on your first sci-fi. And Skyhe, I was exactly like you as a teen. I grew up in the country and always thought my family was have a good chance of survival if the worst happened and we had to live off the land.

Hi Susan, wow, what a smokin' cover. Whew.

And I agree. Love is just about as important as shelter and food! It was lovely getting to know you a little today.

Thanks for sharing Susan with us, Paty.

Congrats on your release, Susan! And on your publisher's choice of cover! I also love your reason for writing romance. And in a fantasy/futuristic setting - what more could a reader ask for?

LOL, Susan. Shall I say Cold War? I lived in the country too. And Mom used to think I was crazy. I'd save seed packets, among other things that I could scrounge up. As if the nuclear blast wouldn't irradiate my seeds! HA HA HAAAAAA. I was so nuts.

I love the cover!!! I'm going to read it just for that :) Well, and because the story sounds good, but you had me at the cover!!! LOL, HOT!!!
