Back in the Saddle

This weekend was a stellar weekend for me. Mainly because my daughter, who is the horsewoman, was here and rode my horse. I haven't been on him since last summer and he's pretty darn green. So rather than get on and risk getting tossed off, I waited until someone else "warmed" him up. And I'm glad I did. He did a few crow hops in the beginning, but she knows what she's doing and said I was lucky, he "gave himself away ". When he is about to pitch a fit, you can feel him stiffen. So I know to grab the horn.

She put him through some things and had me get on and copy the instructions she taught him. I'm hoping to take an hour a day from here on out and work him. It's hours he needs on him. Then I won't need a younger, lither body to ride him before I get on.

Friday, I received my copies of Miner in Petticoats. There's just something about holding the book in your hand that makes the whole endeavor feel real.

How was your weekend?

Paty, Congratulations on holding your book in your hands. I'm waiting for the moment I can hold mine!

Your horse is beautiful. Bay with blaze is my favorite color. He's very westerny looking. Darn those crow hops though. I'm way too old for that...LOL

Good for you.

Hugs

I understand the joy of holding your book, and I'm completely jealous you have your horse and can ride each day. I only get to ride if I beg a friend.

Thanks Caroline! I'm now anxiously awaiting some reviews to come in. Yeah, Bud is my big boy. His mother was my daughter's 4-H mare. So he's been around me since he was born and we have a bond. But I haven't worked with him near as much as I should. Too much going on.

Susan, I need to ride more often than I do! Then I wouldn't have to have someone else get on him the first time in the spring.

Hi Helen, Yes, it was a great weekend!

Congrats on the book, Paty. I can't wait to experience that feeling myself later this year. Your horse reminds me a bit of the one I had when I was in high school. He liked to crowhop and kick up his heels on a frosty morning, trying to catch me offguard. I didn't mind then, but I don't think my older bones would appreciate his sense of humor much now.

Congrats on the book! I so wish I had a horse to ride every day! I keep telling my husband I'm going to buy one, and he keeps saying, not until I pay off the car I 'had' to buy.

Linda A., I fell off more horse than I care to tell as a youth, but I'm like you not willing to hit the ground any more. That's why I had my daughter ride him first. And I had a good ride today.

Lauri, I'll trade you my horse for your pony. ;)
