Wednesday Promo-Amber Leigh Williams

ANTE UP!

Keefe Ridge's bronc-busting days are nearly over. Despite that and the fact that he is slowly making his dream business venture a reality, Wayback's wildest cowboy doesn't see any reason to settle down. He is even willing to bet that marriage isn't in the cards at all for him.

Agent Calli Morlani came to Wayback on a mission: to bring Stella Ridge back to Hollywood. When Stella refuses, she dares Calli to take in some local color and see what Wayback has to offer. Whether that includes Stella's devastatingly charming brother becomes irrelevant once Calli finds herself in bed with him - in more ways than one…

Will it take a tough city girl to make the Wayback playboy finally fall long and hard? Or will Keefe give Calli a reason to stay? Place your bet!

This March is special—it’s the bittersweet launch of the third book in my western romance trilogy, Bet It On My Heart! I love this story and the dysfunction family of the Ridges of Wayback, Texas and it’s a bit of a gut-wrencher that it has to come to an end!

But I’m here to celebrate! Here’s more on this final chapter of the Ridge saga….

I wanted to do something different for this story. The first two books in the trilogy featured both a cowboy and a cowgirl. The first, Blackest Heart, was the story of actress Stella Ridge who comes home to Wayback to heal after a horrific care accident and finds solace in an unexpected place (i.e. in the arms of a silent cowboy). In the second, Bluest Heart, we find Stella’s brother Casey and his reluctant sweetheart Josie, a resident of Wayback. In Bet It On My Heart, we continue the saga with the oldest Ridge, Keefe. This bad boy needed some tamin’. So I decided to bring in a total outsider! Enter Calli Morlani, tough Hollywood talent agent, former Yankee.

At my first rodeo, I took notes I thought a city girl would find interesting. In Keefe and Calli’s “first meet,” she gets a little too acquainted with one major drawback of ranch life:

“Excuse me!” a feminine voice called out.

They turned to watch the figure picking her way toward them through the grass. Keefe skimmed his gaze over her, brows perking up and some humor flashing back. She looked so out of place in the rustic setting, she might’ve wandered out of an alternate universe. Her toothpick heels sunk into the sod. He raked his eyes over shapely calves left bare by a knee-length skirt. She carried a matching jacket and had already sweated through the thin, almost translucent tank underneath. Perspiration shined on her face, arms, and shoulders.

Her eyes were dark, deep and irritable. He was instantly intrigued. Walking to her, he dipped his hat. “How can I help you, ma’am?”

Something squished under her shoe as she took a step toward him to grab hold of his hand like a lifeline. Keefe fought a smile as she looked down at the big, stinking pile of manure with her slim footprint embedded in it. The gunk cloaked the bottom of her shoe. “Please tell me that isn’t what I think it is,” she begged in an accent that indicated she wasn’t from anywhere around here.

He reached out to take her arm as she balanced precariously on one heel. “It’s okay. Dodging cowpies is somewhat of a sport around here. Takes training.”

She scrambled through the big, leather purse hanging off her shoulder and took out a tissue. The smell of melon filled the muggy air between them. With a great deal of amusement, he realized the tissue was scented. He held her upright as she lifted her foot again to attempt to wipe away the muck. She sniffed and wrinkled her nose in disgust. “To think I always thought cowpies were edible and chocolaty—like fudge pie. This experience has certainly burst my bubble. Poor Jimmy Choos.”

“How ‘bout I take you to dinner to make up for it?”

She looked up at him, mixed shock and skepticism cloaking her expression. The dark pools of her eyes just about knocked him on his back. He felt an insistent tug in his midsection. Surprised, he scanned her searching eyes and considered. Well, well. What’s this all about?

Other entertaining scenarios readers get to live through Calli’s eyes: learning to ride (at the hands of a sexy cowboy), a night at The Blue Bug Saloon, a day at the rodeo, rolling in the eye (*wink*), and even the “ghost lights!”
