Monday Mulligan Stew

I was asked last week how I get into a story when I've been unable to write for a few days. I thought hmmm... that might make a good discussion topic for today.

First when I'm brewing a book I look for music I can associate with it. The Halsey brother books I listen to instrumental bluegrass and Celtic music, Perfectly Good Nanny I listened to Shania Twain, the spirit trilogy Native American music, my January contemporary release Chris LeDoux, and the current story set among the Mayan- Mayan ancestral music. I listen to the music as I write and when I hear the music I automatically dive into the story and the characters. I know I'm like the dogs of the Pavlovian test. LOL But that's one way I get into my stories and another is I always go back and read the last chapter I've written to get back in the tone and feel of the story and to make sure it flows together. If I've been away for more than a couple days I'll read the last two or three chapters to get back in the swing of things. Whatever it takes to get me thinking forward.

What do you do to get back into a story or book when you've been distracted for a few days or a week or more?

Been away from novel#2 for months now, so I'm reading, reading, reading. Like you, each novel has theme music. I'll listen and feel the vibe.
