Monday Mulligan Stew

I'm in the throes of researching the next book project. I have a stack of books to read, a time line and map to draw, then I need to decide which of the historical events will work in my story and how my main characters will respond to the events.

One of the things I need to know is how a cavalry troop is run, who is in charge of what and how to make my hero cavalry officer a sympathetic character while he is following orders and chasing the people the heroine is out to save. And how to keep the majority of the scenes with the two of them when they are at such odds. Oii! I may have bitten off more than I can write! I'll keep you updated!

My goal is to start writing this book by the first of the year. I'll use the next two weeks to do the research. I've already had scenes flashing in my head. I know the heroine. She's been in two books already as a secondary character but the hero is brand new and I need to get to know him better. He's slowly growing in my mind, but I need to know more about his background. This will come. It always does.

Wishing you a productive week with whatever you're doing, work or holiday preparations.

Sounds like fun. I always enjoy the research. I need to do some for my 3rd novel, which I plan to set around here - probably early 1900's. Seems like a workable time. I need to go downtown to the historical society sometime soon.

In the meantime, I keep on with revisioning the space pirates. I'm in chapter 2. yay!

I love research, but I get so antsy wanting to start the writing. Good luck and I hope you make your deadline!
