Friday Farm Fun- Another George the burro tale

George helping saddle Bud
As I've noted before on here, George the burro is a character. He loves the grandkids, hates the dogs, and thinks he's mated to my gelding Bud.

George loves people, but if Bud's around he prefers him to people, though he will leave Bud's side to come over for an ear scratch or a handful of fresh green grass.

George and Sunny, the miniature mare, have a love hate relationship. He'd like to be friends but she won't have anything to do with him. She also loves Bud. And who wouldn't love a male with a broad chest, muscular neck, firm round rump, a full black mane and tail, and a twinkle of mischief in his eye.

When we stacked the first cutting of grass hay in the barn, my hubby moved the tractor over, which made it harder to get Bud in and out the pasture where he, George, and Sunny are staying.  So once, hubby helped me get him out, I kept him in the corral so I could ride every day.  Sunny paced the fence closest to the corral and George stood in the corner Hee Hawing several times a day. It wasn't like they couldn't see Bud standing in the corral, but they were both having Bud withdrawals.

Considering George's Houdini tricks before, I was pretty sure I'd find him standing alongside the corral one day, but he stayed in the pasture.

I was going to be away for a few days, so I decided to return Bud to the pasture. Only he was scared of the narrow area he had to stand while I unhooked the hotwire gate. I dropped his rope and let him back out, while I unhooked the gate and tossed it into the pasture. I caught Bud and tried to lead him forward. He kept eyeing the hotwire and refusing.

George walked over to the hotwire and picked up the handle in his teeth and looked at Bud as if to say, "See, it won't hurt you." Bud looked at him and then followed me into the pasture.

Aw, cool story! Animals are amazing, aren't they?

Granddaughters were over the other night, and they had their uncle Cody walking on his hands and doing other 'gymnastics' tricks with them. When Cody and the girls started doing the 'fireman's roll' across the front yard, Cody's dog Bear joined in, rolling alongside the rest of them. Of course they were all done by the time I got my camera!

Have a great weekend! (From the sound of it, I'd be in love with Bud, too. George, too.)

George is a keeper, that's for sure.

Lauri, Animals are such fun. They do the funniest and sometimes most profound things.

Stephanie, I agree!

George is a riot. I love that burro and want one just like him!

Rick and I were just reading that donkeys make great guardian animals for sheep or alpacas because they detest canines, including coyotes. And they don't bark all night at predators like guardian-breed dogs.

Now I really want a donkey to guard our alpacas!

Oops, that last comment was from Danita. Didn't mean to hit anonymous.

I can totally picture George with the hot wire handle in his teeth! What a card!
