Friday Farm Fun- Two Person Barn Raising

Last weekend my husband and I put up six more poles for our barn/hay shed. I took pictures of the last pole we put in so you could see the process. 

Here the pole has been dragged over to the 8' deep hole. 

Now the pole is being slid into the hole so the pole will stand  up slightly and  I can wrap a chain around it as it is straightened.

Using the bale forks to keep the pole from going sideways the pole is stood on end in the  hole.

The pole is shimmed in the hole to snuggle it up to the rope we used to line the poles up.

Before the backhoe can move away from the pole dirt has to be shoveled around the base to hold it in place. We usually fill the hole about half way. 

Not sure why half of the photo isn't showing but that's the 8' deep hole dug with the backhoe that we put the poles in.

Once we've shoveled enough dirt in to hold the pole then hubby uses the backhoe to finish the job. 

This is the final phase where he smooths out all the dirt.

And this is the barn so far. We have more poles to put on either side and then the roof. The shorter  poles that look like a wide archway is where a lean-to will go for the horses to get out of the weather and off to the side of that will be the tack room. Updates will be forthcoming as we continue to build.
