Friday Farm Fun - Mish-mash

It has started to warm up here. The daffodils peeking out of the ground are a good sign of hopefully spring headed our way.

We started feeding the horses hay this week since they've cleaned up all the tall grass around the edge of the field they're in. It was fun watching them paw through the snow to get to the grass. I guess you can tell by how we make the horses be horses that we aren't the pampering kind. Our grandkids ask us why our horses don't have blankets like the ones they see along the highway. It's simple, our horses aren't show horses. They don't get baths, they don't get clipped. The only pampering they get is to have their hooves trimmed. Most of the year the horses are pasture ornaments. I've yet to put the hours on them I'd like, but I'm hoping when we finally get moved to the large piece of property and it's easier to take a nice long right, I'll put the hours on them and enjoy riding.
The boys eating hay.

Here, I have to open too many gates to get a good ride in. I have enough trouble hauling my bottom up in to the saddle without having to do it five times to go on a ride.
