Wednesday Promo- Pamela Hearon

I'm pleased to present fellow Wild Rose Press author- Pamela Hearon.

Bio:
Maybe growing up in the South didn’t have any impact on Pamela Hearon’s writing, but she has her own theories and believes otherwise. A lifetime of sultry, Southern nights surely infused her blood with a special heat—the kind that transforms simple love stories into a tales of romance and desire. And her most powerful writing happens at some of the oddest times—in the garden … in a dream … even in the shower. Unexpected moments of inspiration bring dialogues together, make characters come to life, and fill gaping plot holes.
Her writing process wouldn’t work for everybody. It is, after all, a bit out of the ordinary. But Pamela embraces it because nobody wants a book that’s ordinary.

Why do you write romantic comedy?
Reading for me is all about escape. I love escaping into worlds that make me laugh out loud and are fun. As a writer, I like to give my readers that same form of escape. To get them away from the problems of life and to hand them a laugh or even a smile makes me feel good, like I’ve brought a wee bit of happiness into the world.

How do you find writing comedy different from writing fantasy?
Writing both comedy and fantasy requires creating a world. The difference comes in the kinds of worlds created. The fantasy world is much easier. If I can imagine it, it can become real in my writing. On the contrary, writing comedy requires staying bound to the actual world we live in. That world is not inherently funny. It has to be manipulated in such a way that an entire romantic relationship is funny, yet remains believable. Not an easy task, but challenging—and fun!

What advice do you have for writers trying to break into the romance market?
Join Romance Writers of America and get involved in at least one of its chapters. The information shared within the organization is worth its weight in gold. Take on-line classes to hone your skills (also offered through RWA chapters), and find a critique partner whose judgment you trust. Enter contests for valuable feedback, and develop a thick skin.

What do you have in the works?
Currently, I’m working on a single-title, contemporary series set in my hometown, Paducah, Kentucky and the Kentucky Lake region. Each story stands alone, but characters pop in for cameo appearances in different books to establish a sense of community.

Blurb for His Hotness:
Jade Bartholomew spent ten years perfecting her 100-point scale that will determine the ideal man for her — His Hotness. Although reality has her re-evaluating some of her dreams, she refuses to give up on two: financial independence and the existence of His Hotness.

Kai Malone lives the American dream. From a middle-class upbringing, he has reached the pinnacle of success as the CEO of a software company which is about to sell for millions. But success has a downside that brings out Kai’s greatest faults: he’s too honest, gives too much of himself, and is too indulgent with the women in his life. He has to change; Techtron’s sale may depend on it.

Jade and Kai meet when she shanks a golf ball into his most vulnerable spot. Not the ideal way to start a relationship — but no one ever said attaining the title His Hotness would be easy.

Excerpt:
“What you need, Chickie-boom, is a good old-fashioned, head-banging, sheet-fisting, toe-curling orgasm.” Gram snatched up the journal with the worn, floral cover and waved it toward the nightstand. “And by old-fashioned, I mean one that involves a man, not one that requires a battery-pack and a warranty.”

Jade closed her laptop on the Regency she was editing. “What I need is a job with a great publisher, so I can quit sponging off my precious-but-nosey grandmother.” With her toe, she nudged her closet door closed before Gram could see the empty spaces that once housed her vast collection of Pradas and Guccis. She slid the check from the consignment shop into her desk drawer and raised a questioning eyebrow toward Gram. “How did you know where I keep my, um, toys?”

Gram shrugged. “Lucky guess. And it’s the same place I keep mine.”

My mom just finished reading His Hotness. She asked me who the character of Gram was based on. I told her it's me at 78:-)

Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Pamela,
Guess I'm at the end of the day. Your title certainly catchy. I'm terrible with titles. I love romantic comedy, but I don't write it. It's hard to keep it balanced. You have a great excerpt. Lots of luck with His Hotness!
