Friday Farm Fun- Mother's Day

When we were loading the heifers to take to the auction a week ago, I had a mishap. While backing to stop an errant heifer, I tripped on a blob of hard manure and landed my backside in a fresh cowpie. My sister-in-law and husband had a good laugh when I stood up and had fresh pie sloughing off my backside.

This fickle weather has us wearing short sleeves one day and finding icicles under the sprinklers the next morning.

Things are greening up, the cows are out to pasture and I'm just feeding a few steers waiting to go to their new homes and Cori and Myrtle with their two young calves- Halfpint and Brownie. When the steers are gone we'll put the two young cows and their calves in pasture. Right now because Cori, the longhorn/corriente cross is so tame were hoping she'll tame down Myrtle who has a bit of the wild eye to her. But Myrtle's started eating the grain I give her and today when I put the hay out, she came up to the feeder instead of standing back and giving me a wary stare.

I'll be headed to Princeton this week to start up the handline again and get the corner of the alfalfa watered. Which means more quiet time for writing!!

Happy Mother's Day weekend everyone!

Hi Becky! Happy Mother's Day to you, too! So far not much writing has been done nor looks to get done for about a week. But I have a signing Saturday the 19th at The Bookloft in Enterprise, Or.

Cow Paty strikes again! Hee hee. Funny story. Glad to hear the one cow is taming the other one down. Cute calves.
