Montana Bachelor by Hildie McQueen
The morning after Amy
Leigh Paisley, from Pine Oak, Montana is left behind in Las Vegas, she wakes up
with not only a huge hangover, but with a husband who happens to be Trent
Baxter, Billings' most eligible bachelor.
His father thinks
she's a gold-digger, her mother wants her to be one, and all Amy Leigh wants, is
to stay married to the hot man for just a bit longer and maybe another night of
great sex.
READ AN EXCERPT
If her head didn't hurt
so badly, she'd do a little happy dance. Instead, she got to her feet and
looked around the room. Was he still around? She scanned from the bed back to
the bathroom and lastly to the closet. Nope, Mr. Tall, Dark, and Tasty was
definitely not there. Then she saw a sliver of paper torn from the hotel’s pad
on the desktop.
Amy Leigh Paisley? I thought your name was Leigh Mason.
Regardless of what your name is, it is urgent we meet and talk. I'd
like to keep this as discreet as possible. I think your drink was drugged.
Please call me at your earliest convenience. I programmed my number
into your phone.
Trent Baxter
"Drugged? Hmpf."
No mention of their time together. "How about an ‘I had a great time’ or
‘It was the best night of my life'?" Amy grumbled at the empty room.
Why would they have to
talk? It was a one-night stand and from what she could remember, it was an
amazing yet embarrassing one to talk to him about. She was not about to call
him anytime soon. Or ever for that matter. Although the idea of being drugged
was worrisome. Perhaps she could report it. If she did, she would be questioned
and honestly she remembered very little before coming to the room with Trent.
At his name, she hugged the shirt to her and sighed.
As she returned the note
to the desk, she saw a second piece of paper.
A marriage license.
Amy picked it up and read
it, reread it, and then read it again. In the fill in the blank lines there
were the names Trent Andrew Baxter and Amy Leigh Paisley. "Oh shit."
When the heck did they
have time to get married?
The water forgotten, she
sat on the bed and stared at the marriage certificate. Then her lips curved. He
was all hers. At least for another day or two she could claim him as her
husband. "Amy Leigh Baxter. Nice ring to it." Of course she wouldn't
tell anyone, her mother would have a cow that she married a total stranger and
if anyone got hold of the news in Pine Oak, she'd be labeled the new slut
queen.
Amy Leigh's shoulders
slumped. He wanted to meet to discuss the annulment.
The phone rang and she
jumped. She stretched toward the nightstand and picked up the receiver.
"Hello?" her voice came out in uneven tones, from deep to high
pitched.
"Miss Paisley?"
The woman on the other end asked, her voice tentative.
"Yes?" Amy
croaked and then cleared her throat. "This is Amy Leigh Paisley."
"This is your wake
up call. The hotel airport shuttle leaves in forty-five minutes."
"Thank you."
Feeling disconnected from her body, Amy Leigh hung up. She went through the
motions of dressing and packing her toiletries along with her dress and shoes
from the night before. She picked up Trent's note and the marriage license, folded
them carefully, and slipped both into her purse.
The lobby was quiet but
busy. Not everyone slept late in Vegas. Even after a cup of coffee she still
had over twenty minutes to wait for the shuttle.
"Best get this over
with." She looked up Trent's number on her cell phone and pressed the call
button. "Let's see what the hubby has to say."
