Salt & Pepper Sunday

Today is my birthday. I wonder if I'll get a new set of salt and pepper shakers from someone?
I received these interesting huggers from my sister-in-law for Christmas the past year. She and her husband travel around on their Harley motorcycles. They been to Galveston and picked these up for me knowing I like unique salt and pepper shakers.

Salt & Pepper Sunday

I collect salt and pepper shakers from places I've been. These have a unique story.

I flew to Louisiana to be a workshop presenter at NOLA Romance Writers conference. A shuttle picked me up at the airport, they had a wonderful welcome room full of Louisiana cuisine.  I visited with local writers and other presenters. The conference was fun and kept me busy. I didn't have a chance to check out the area. I arrived at the airport early and started scouring the gift shops for a pair of Louisiana salt and pepper shakers. These were the only ones that caught my eye. Every time I look at them I think fondly of that conference and the welcoming writers running it.

Salt & Pepper Sunday

I enjoyed raising pigs while the kids were growing up and now I collect unique or cute pigs and salt and pepper shakers.

I found these two cuties in a local store. I don't like to pay full price for anything, except pigs. ;) Most of the time if I see a set of salt and pepper shakers I like in a local store, I wait until they are down to one set or they are put on sale. This pair happened to be the last ones, so I nabbed them.

Salt & Pepper Sunday

This pair of salt and pepper shakers came from the Netherlands. I picked them up when we took the family to see the country where their paternal grandparents lived. My husband had traveled to visit relatives when he was seven. We had a good time seeing sights and meeting extended family members.

It was the first time my husband had met many of his cousins. Aunts and uncles had traveled to Oregon to visit over the years, but few cousins.  You'll be seeing more salt and pepper shakers from Holland. When my mother-in-law visits she brings me back a set.

Salt & Pepper Sunday

A friend and author Nancy Brophy posts salt and pepper shakers from her collection on her Facebook page every Tuesday. That gave me the idea to share my collection with you on my blog. So every Sunday until I run out of salt and pepper shakers you will get a viewing and a brief story about how they came into my collection.

This set was given to me by a fan. The hummingbird is the salt and the flower is the pepper. The fan happens to be in her 90s and not only reads my books in print but also on her Nook ereader. She is a local person who is a friend of my mother-in-law. One year when we had her and her husband over for Thanksgiving she brought me this salt and pepper set.
