Christmas Gifts by Paty Jager

This year I set up a "Santa" shop in the corner of my garage. (We're still building the shop. Once that is done we'll have room to set up a woodworking area) For now I use the shop.

After hearing one of my granddaughters tell her mom she needed something to hang her necklaces on and I had been eyeballing something to hang my earrings on, I came up with two ideas.

One was to make a necklace and bracelet hanger for my granddaughters. I spotted wooden letters in Hobby Lobby that were on sale. I nabbed the appropriate letters for each granddaughter and wooden pegs. Then I called up their mothers and asked their favorite colors. I drilled holes in the letters spaced to give them the most hang room, and glued the pegs in the holes. Then I painted the letters. Teal for Tiffiney, a variation of teal for Hailie, purple for Becca and Rainbow colors for Rietta.

Then I went to work on the big girl presents. Jewelry cabinets that hang on the wall. I pulled boards off an old hay trailer and tore apart a pallet to get weathered wood. I drew up a plan and showed it to my husband. He gave me some pointers on how to do some steps easier and I started cutting wood. The first day I had all the wood cut and ready for the next phase. This phase required I drill holes for pegs. Then I glued felt to the back board and glued the pegs in the holes. I used framing vices to make the door frame. After those were glued and screwed I added the netting on the back of the frame. Then the sides were added to the back board, first glued then screwed.  I added hinges to the doors and a hook to hold the door closed. Here is the one I made for myself.

There were fun projects and so far all the recipients seem pleased to receive them!
